Now, a lot of magical creatures that we see in myth or in fantasy were inspired by animals that we could see in the real world!
The real world?!
But magical creatures are so... -I agree, Petey!
It might seem that a normal animal couldn't become something fantastical, but they can, through something we like to call... That's right!
Where we don't add numbers together, we add creatures together.
I have a creature math example for you, Petey.
What do you get when you add a horse... -[ Neighs ] -...and a narwhal?
-[ Squeaking ] -Sherry, I can't even picture a creature like that.
-Actually, this is one of the most classic magical creatures.
All you have to do is take different parts from each animal and put them together.
Like when you take the body of a horse and add the horn of a narwhal, that equals...?
[ Shimmer! ]
-A unicorn!
Sherry, I have never thought about unicorns this way.
Amazing!
-That's...!
[ Fanfare plays ] -Okay, Sherry, I have one for you.
What if we did a goat... -[ Bleating ] plus a shark?
[ Splash! ]
-I have never heard of a creature like that.
-Of course you haven't, Sherry, because it's something I'm creating right now.
Let's say that we took the horns and the chin fur of a goat and added it to the body of a hammerhead shark.
You'd get Old Man Shark!
A new magical creature that can swim to the deepest depths of the ocean, skewer fish with his horns, and... knit you a sweater like nobody's business.
Ha ha!
[ Fanfare plays ] -So cool!
But there's one more thing that I want to add to make this creature extra special, and that's by adding something extra.
We want to make the creature look unlike anything we've seen before.
So, maybe we could give it... Or we can make it... Let's pick a detail and take it... [ Echoing ] -I know -- Old Man Shark has an extra long beard.
Where else is he going to get the materials to knit those sweaters... [ Echoing ] -Hey, you kids, keep it down, or no sweaters for you!
[ Whimsical tune plays ] -Sorry, Old Man Shark.
-I can't wait for that sweater!
Now, it's your turn.
Create your own magical fantasy creature using creature math.
Don't forget to add something extra to make it extra fantastical.
We'll see you next time.
Bye!
